Research interests
Klimis Mastoridis is Professor of Typography and Graphic Communication and Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS), the University of Nicosia, Cyprus, where he also served as the Head of the Department of Design and Multimedia for six years (April 2008-2014) and as Associate Dean of the SHSS (December 2016–February 2020).
He is director of Hyphen, a typographic forum, and author of the books Reproduction and printing issues (in Greek / 1988, 1993, 1997, new ed. 2010) and Casting the Greek newspaper; a study of the morphology of the ephemeris from its origins until the introduction of mechanical setting (1999).
Director of the "Institute for the Study of Typography & Visual Communication" (ISTVC), a Fellow of the "International Society of Typographic Designers" (ISTD), and the "Institute of Paper, Printing and Publishing", (IP3), UK, and member of several academic societies relating to graphic communication, design and the history of printing, Klimis has participated in many conferences and was responsible for the academic part of the first-ever international conference about typography held in Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1992 (DIDOT Programme).
Klimis is the initiator of the idea and the driving force behind the "International Conference on Typography and Visual Communication" (ICTVC | 2002, 2004, 2007, 2016 and 2022 in Thessaloniki, Greece; 2010 and 2013 in Nicosia, Cyprus) and has more than 40 years of professional publishing and design experience. His research interests include printing history and technology, and typographic design for visual communication.
