Research interests
Dr Maria Christoforou interests and specialization combine play and script writing, transmedia narratives, 360-degree VR immersive video storytelling, interactive movies and documentaries, interactive theater and mixed reality environments. In her practice research she often invites feminine and feminist aspects, to share a political feminist voice. In her PhD Research she explores immersive storytelling artistic methodologies, through digital technologies, that challenge stereotypical gender roles and contested historical social narratives. Her research aims to investigate the emotional response of participants when they are engaging with an artwork in hybrid, real and virtual space. Her research focuses on theories and philosophies of sublime, interaction and transformation which integrates innovated technologies, demonstrated in immersive hybrid environments. She is an interdisciplinary artist and researcher and has mounted six solo exhibitions and participated in various group local and international exhibitions, festivals, conferences, workshops, seminars in Cyprus, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Greece and Portugal. As an educator she has a wide variety of experience as a trainer, for children and adults. During these workshops, she explores digital media and immersive storytelling methodologies and animation techniques, painting, drawing, art and graphs, tangram art and mathematics, performing arts and much more which aim to encourage the development of human emotions and qualities such as empathy, catharsis, feminine, feminist subjects and much more.
