Research interests
Marina Rodosthenous-Balafa is an Associate Professor in Modern Greek Literature and Teaching Literature at the University of Nicosia. She is the Head of the Department of Education and the coordinator of the MA Programme of Study: Teaching of Language and Literature (MEd). She graduated from the University of Cyprus with High Honours (BA in Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies). She continued her studies at King’s College London (MA in Modern Greek Studies) and Cambridge University (PhD in Early Modern Greek Literature). In September 2006 she was awarded a grant from the A.G. Leventis Foundation for postdoctoral research on “Cypriot and Cretan Renaissance Literature”. She was employed as Special Scientist and Associated Educational Personnel (a post which includes autonomous lecturing) at Cambridge University (2004-2006), European University of Cyprus (2007-2009), Cyprus University (2001-2003, 2007-current) and Open University Cyprus (2010-2011, 2014). Dr Rodosthenous-Balafa has presented her research in several international and regional conferences. She has published in refereed journals, collective volumes and conference proceedings. She has organized various conferences on Literature and Teaching Literature. She is the editor of two books on Teaching Literature. Her areas of interest include Greek Renaissance Literature· Petrarchism· Neoplatonism· 19th-21st century Greek Literature· Comparative Literature· Thematics· the elaboration of Philosophy, Religion, Culture and History of Ideas in Literature· Cultural Literacy and Teaching of Literature in Primary, Secondary and Higher Education.
