Natassa Economidou Stavrou is Associate Professor in Music Education and the Associate Head of the Department of Music and Dance at the University of Nicosia in Cyprus. She is Music BA holder from the Music Department of the University of Athens and an MA holder from the University of Reading in the field of Music Education. She gained her PhD from the University of Athens in 2004 in the field of Music Curriculum.
She presented papers in international conferences regarding music curriculum design, implementation and evaluation, teachers’ and children’s attitudes towards Music as a part of the school curriculum, early childhood music education, creativity, differentiated instruction in music teaching and learning, students as curriculum co-negotiators, and effective music teaching and teacher education. Her work has been published in refereed journals and books (BJME, IJME, AEPR, MER, and RSME). She is currently elected board member of the International Society for Music Education and served in the board of the European Association for Music in Schools (2015-2019).
Natassa has co-coordinated the design and development of the latest Cypriot National Curriculum for Music after appointment by the Cypriot Ministry of Education. She has served in International Journal of Music Education editorial board since 2006 and is currently a member of the editorial board of the book series European Perspectives in Music Education. Since 2012 she directs her own early childhood music centre, offering group music classes for children aged 10 months-7 years old and is currently a member of the early childhood music education working group in the Association’s Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen (AEC) four year funded project titled Strengthening Music in the Society.
