The Archive of Michael Giannouris: a contribution to the history of Greek art

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

The project concerns the preservation, documentation, digitisation, study, promotion and dissemination of an important and rich archival collection, which contains unexplored material from the artistic activity and life of Athens from 1960s until the dawn of the new millennium. The private archive of the painter, pioneer graphic designer and photographer Michalis Giannouris (1940-2020), owned by his wife Alexandra Giannouris, is currently managed by the University of Nicosia under the supervision of Associate Professor Avra Xepapadakou. The interest in this archive is due to the exceptional value of the primary and secondary material it contains, none of which have been studied and published. Among the rarest artistic documents are his own creations, such as drawings, visual creations, photographs, designs but also the work of the artistic groups in which he participated, as well as the work of many other important contemporary visual artists who were active in Greece during the second half of the 20th c.
