Abstract

A simple procedure for the safety assessment around aperture antennas is given. The aperture has a general tapered excitation distribution and its near field can be rapidly estimated. Our method is based on the reuse of the envelopes of the normalized iso-parametric contours of an equivalent uniform aperture with smaller dimensions. The dimensions of the equivalent uniform aperture are selected, by enforcing equal Half Power Beam Width (HPBW) with the tapered one. The key point of the method is an appropriate transformation of the normalized spatial coordinates and the relative contour level values of the former aperture based on the ratio of its dimensions to those of the latter.
