Abstract
System Integrity Protection Schemes (SIPS) are a widely used solution to the problems in operating increasingly stressed power systems. This leads to the application of large numbers of SIPS on many national networks, which results in an increased probability of undesirable and unplanned interactions amongst the SIPS. Recent electrical disturbances evidenced that these events decrease power system reliability and increase the probability of widespread incidents. This paper proposes a procedure for assessing the risk caused by the interaction between different SIPS on the same or neighbouring networks. The probability of adverse operation of each individual SIPS is used to evaluate the probability of an interaction between the SIPS. This method is illustrated using a small power system, where the installation of a wind park increases system stress and SIPS are used to ensure stable system operation.
