Abstract
This study examines the design and production issues which affected the outlook and defined the development of the Greek newspaper from 1790 until the introduction of mechanical setting in Greece in the first decade of the present century. The book is primarily concerned with typographical issues; thus, it follows a different path from that of previous works on the history of Greek printed matter which can be found in Greek bibliography. It asserts that there exists a distinct design tradition in Greek newspaper production and intends to provide stimuli for further research in the field of Greek printing along similar lines.
