Abstract

Healthcare has rapidly changed due to the advances in medicine during the past few decades. Moreover, digitalization comes to upgrade the conditions for providing healthcare today. Cyprus is amongst the healthiest populations in the EU, however the public health delivery before 2019 was based on an outdated system. In mid-2019 a newly established General Healthcare System (GHS) has been implemented. The latter includes all recent technological advances of a universal healthcare system, a constitutional part of which is the eHealth Data Exchange process. The scope of this research is to explore and capture the perceptions of the healthcare professionals and of citizens and beneficiaries of the new GHS that was implementation in June 2019 regarding the eHealth services provided. Our results show an initial positive feedback both from the healthcare professionals and from the beneficiaries. Both groups are of the opinion that through the directly available medical records the risk for the patient will be decreased. The findings of our research are very interesting, and they will act as feedback to the public authorities in order for them to proceed with any necessary amendments of the system.
