Abstract
The investigation of the physical state of the human thorax by means of impedance plethysmography is presented. A two dimensional model is used and the impedance variation as a function of air that enters or is exhaled from the lungs is explained. Two instruments suitable to monitor the changes of the impedance during the respiration have been designed. Experimental results, compared with those given by a classical spirometer, show a good agreenment.
