Abstract

The current meat production and consumption model is currently emerging as a global problem with wide-ranging health and environmental implications, as well as raising ethical debates on animal welfare. For all these reasons, this problem is seen as a socially acute question that can be addressed in education to help students deal with complex problems and to improve their skills in argumentation, decision-making, critical thinking and so on. The chapter begins with an analysis of the current meat production and consumption model using controversy mapping as a methodology. It then shows two experiences on the educational treatment of this problem in initial teacher training, both in primary and secondary education, starting with the use of controversy mapping. It ends with some general considerations on the problem of the current meat production and consumption model and the formative training experiences carried out.
