From data to decisions: enhancing ambidexterity and performance through big data analytics capability and organizational foresight

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to investigate how big data analytics capability (BDAC), as a dynamic capability, improves organizational ambidexterity and firm performance in rapidly changing and uncertain business environments. Design/methodology/approach – A quantitative survey was conducted among senior business representatives from the manufacturing sector in Vietnam. Partial least squares structural equation modeling was used to analyze data collected from 310 respondents and to test the hypothesized relationships. Findings – The results confirm that BDAC positively influences organizational foresight, supply chain agility (SCA) and decision-making. While foresight enhances organizational ambidexterity, it does not significantly affect the decision-making process. Both decision-making and agility significantly contribute to ambidexterity and firm performance. In addition, government policy indirectly improves firm performance by enhancing SCA. Originality/value – Grounded in the dynamic capabilities view, this study provides a comprehensive understanding of how BDAC interacts with other organizational capabilities and external policy support to drive ambidexterity and performance. It offers novel insights for managers and policymakers aiming to develop agile, data-driven and future-oriented organizations in volatile environments.
