N1 - 40 participating members representing 23 Asia-Europe countries composed the proceedings of the "Religion and Education" Working Group in Budapest, 18th-19th of January 2007. The Working Group Conference was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, which also edited the proceedings. The purpose of the "Religion and Education" Working Group Conference was to present its findings as suggestions at the Third ASEM (Asia-Europe Meeting) Interfaith Dialogue, held in Nanjing, China,(19-21 June 2007), and was cohosted by the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Italy and cosponsored by Austria, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, the Netherlands, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Spain, Thailand and UK. Hence, in article 21 (p. 5) of the "Nanjing Statement on Interfaith Dialogue", [https://www.mofa.go.jp/policy/economy/asem/interfaith/dialogue0706.pdf], it states: "We encouraged partners to advance research in faiths and cultures from a comprehensive and multidisciplinary perspective, as well as carry out academic exchanges. In this regard, we welcomed the reports of the Working Groups on “Education and Religion” and “Media and Religion” that were organized in 2007 in Budapest by the Republic of Cyprus as part of the implementation of the Larnaca Action Plan". Note: the "Larnaca Action Plan" were the Proceedings of the Second ASEM (Asia-Europe Meeting) Interfaith Dialogue, held in Larnaca, Cyprus,(3-5 July 2006): http://www.mfa.gov.cy/mfa/mfa2016.nsf/5FC67546633D12DEC2257F95002BE630/$file/Larnaca%20Action%20Plan%20on%20Interfaith%20Understanding%20and%20Cooperation%20for%20a%20Peaceful%20World.pdf In effect, the Budapest January 2007, Working Groups Conference, constituted a follow-up initiative to the Second ASEM Interfaith Dialogue, Larnaca, Cyprus,(3-5 July 2006), that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus undertook. For this reason, in Budapest 2007 I was invited as an expert by the Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be the general rapporteur of the 40 participating members representing 23 countries. In this capacity I also coordinated an internet discussion following the event. In addition, I composed a three page questioner which along with the Budapest 2007 proceedings was sent to 35 member countries of the Asia-Europe Foundation. All relevant documents are available upon request.
