Abstract
Socio-scientific issues are problems of social interest with an important scientific basis whose knowledge is essential for the understanding of the controversies generated, the formation of informed opinions, the taking of responsible decisions, both individual and collective, and citizen participation in the generation of realistic and fair solutions. This chapter describes in detail the methodology, sequence and materials developed for the implementation of a role-playing game about one of these issues: the use of nuclear energy. The design of the game involves the simulation of a television debate on the agreement reached by the electricity companies Endesa, Iberdrola and Naturgy in 2019 for the progressive closure of the Spanish nuclear plants, which would culminate between 2030 and 2035. The students are organised into eleven groups, each consisting of a spokesperson and an advisory team, representing five roles more favourable to the agreement, five less favourable roles and a presenter role. Each group receives a description of the profile of the role they have to defend and is provided with record sheets to be used before and during the role play.
