Abstract
The area between the East Shetland Platform and the western edge of the Viking Graben, called the Crawford- Skipper Basin, has undergone significant pre-Tertiary tectonics, with different phases of active extension and at least one event of compressional inversion, resulting in complex patterns of fault reactivations and formation of new faults. Furthermore, on the structural culmination of the Crawford Spur, two angular unconformities are visible. The relative acoustic impedance section extracted from broadband GeoStreamer data shows a clear distinction between the Jurassic interval and the Triassic package, and it reveals westerly-dipping Triassic reflectors associated with at least three minor listric faults, detached from the top of the Zechstein. The Crawford field contains 20.6 million barrels of oil and 38.1 billion cubic feet of gas as ultimately recoverable reserves and proves the importance of understanding and imaging the subtle fault-related structures of the East Shetland Platform.
