Abstract

WRITING IN February from a Greek perspective, the author discusses In delail the geo-political issues surrounding Russia's efforts to set up alternative export routes for its gas by-passing Ukraine. However, as he points out, even the most-opumistic pipeline plans will only provide a future throughput capacity of around one-third of what is currently being exported through Ukraine, giving rise to the interesting question "does Ukraine need Russia.. .or does Russia need Ukraine?".
