Abstract

The numerical characteristics of a hybrid structured-unstructured grid method for 3D unsteady incompressible flow are examined. The principal objective is to determine the accuracy and efficiency of the method for geometrically simple but physically challenging flows prior to its exploitation in complex industrial cases. The main elements of the procedure are described, and computational results are presented for flows in a 3D lid-driven cavity and behind a 2D/3D backward-facing step. Accuracy is assessed by reference to other numerical and experimental results average in the literature.
