Abstract

Recent research efforts have contributed to the efficient design of advanced multibeam Direct Radiating Arrays (DRA), suitable for modern satellite communications. The bound constraints are set through the directivity pattern and the element types, while the proposed solutions are mainly based on aperiodic architectures of large element phased arrays. In the present work the challenge of Tx and Rx operation on the same host is faced. After a proper choice of the initial layout, the Constraint Relaxation Approach (CRA) is applied in order to both fulfill the pattern specifications and solve the packing problem. A representative example of a design case is given. The design approach comes to extend the deterministic DRA design method, which has been developed by the authors.
