Abstract

Wideband E-shaped patch antenna design is presented. The design technique is based on a self-adaptive Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm. In order to evaluate the algorithm's performance we compare results with three other common evolutionary algorithms regarding statistical results and convergence speed. The results show that the self-adaptive DE algorithm outerperforms other global optimizers like Particle swarm optimization (PSO) variants and the DE rand/1/bin strategy. Therefore, the results indicate the advantages of this approach and the applicability of this design method to other optimization problems in electromagnetics.
